SXSW proves that the most unexpected discoveries happen when diverse topics and people come together.

There we got to stop by the Enchanted Tools booth to learn how they are changing the face of robotics. They are giving life to a new generation of robots, blending world-class engineering with captivating character design to enchant the world. They were showing off their robots Miroka and Miroki at their booth. They combine world-class engineering with charming animation and compelling storytelling to tackle concrete issues and repetitive tasks in health care, hospitality, travel, and other customercentric industries.

Miroka and Miroki are built to overcome the challenges of modern robotics by adapting to the environment around them. Advanced navigation and manipulation capabilities, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), enable the 3.3-foot, 62-pound character robots to recognize, understand, and maneuver within their surroundings. A rolling globe that lets them move faster and more freely, opposable thumbs, and a universal handle that can attach to any object enable the robots to reliably assist with critical yet mundane functions: Miroka and Miroki boast a 97% grasping success rate, compared to the 60% market standard.

AI also manages the robots’ behavior and mammal-like features, allowing them to respond to individuals with a wiggle of the ears or a change in facial expression that creates an engaging, lifelike experience.

After promising trials in Assistance Publique–Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) in France, Enchanted Tools’ robots have proven valuable for critical logistic support, like delivering or transporting supplies across facilities. But reception to the robots’ engaging personalities and responsive facial expressions is opening new potential applications, including as a care companion, especially for children seeking medical treatment.
