Bionic Buzz® covered the San Diego Comic Con 2024 where we interviewed the sci-fi Space Command: Redemption cast and crew. Written, produced and directed by Marc Zicree, along with his wife and creative partner, Elaine Zicree, “Space Command: Redemption” takes audiences on an unforgettable journey across the cosmos, following the epic journey of Captain Jack Kemmer (McDowell) who sets in motion a revolution that changes galactic history. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast and comes to audiences via the Zicrees’ independent production company, Space Command Studios that was launched via a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, allowing the filming and production for “Space Command: Redemption.” The Zicrees’ mission is to create inspiring and socially relevant films and TV series.
“Space Command: Redemption” boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including familiar veteran sci fi TV and film greats in many of the lead and supporting roles including: Doug Jones (“Star Trek: Discovery”), Nichelle Nichols (“Star Trek”), Robert Picardo (“Star Trek: Voyager,” “Stargate Atlantis”), Mira Furlan (“Lost,” “Babylon 5”), Bill Mumy (“Lost in Space,” “Babylon 5”), Armin Shimerman (“Deep Space Nine”), Bruce Boxleitner (“Babylon 5”) and Faran Tahir (J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek”). Famed astrophysicist Neil Degrasse Tyson (“Cosmos”) also appears, in addition to Bryan McClure (“Magnum P.I.,” “Covenant”) and Andra Lanae (“Club Lago”).
For several lead roles in the film, including Capt. Kemmer, the Zicrees – rather than cast already famous actors – publicized an open call audition. The Zicrees received 7,000 inquiries and 1,200 video audition submissions before casting McDowell in the lead role, along with Sara Maraffino (“Girlboss,” “Pretty Little Liars”).
Prior to launching his career as a television writer in the ‘80s on a series of hit animated shows (“The Smurfs,” “The Real Ghostbusters,” “Super Friends,” “He-Man,” “Captain Power”), Marc Zicree established his creds in the sci-fi world with his groundbreaking book, “The Twilight Zone Companion,” a volume responsible for launching the modern genre of books on TV series, and has inspired the current generation of TV showrunners and filmmakers, including J.J. Abrams, Vince Gilligan, and “Star Trek’s” Brannon Braga and Ron Moore. An instant bestseller with over half a million copies sold to date, it was named by the New York Times as one of “10 science fiction books for the ages.”
