Today, California-based duo MOVIESTARZ released their latest single “INVITED,” a high-energy, electronic pop song with a tongue-in-cheek take on not wanting (or needing) a party invite. The song captures an unapologetic attitude, pushing back against the pressure to fit in or network for clout.
MOVIESTARZ is the new creative endeavor from best friends Tyler Nichols and Alex Pombar.
While Nichols is drawn to pop music, Pombar brings in his background in EDM and hip-hop, resulting in a sound that’s both nostalgic and entirely fresh. They have created a full musical experience incorporating genre-defying sounds, standout visuals, and high-quality fashion for a community of people looking to break boundaries and defy the mundane.
Leaning into the Y2K aesthetic, they recently exploded on to the scene with their debut single “CLUB PUNK,” an energetic, edgy anthem that serves as the perfect introduction to their sound. “INVITED” continues to support MOVIESTARZ’s mission to smash genre boundaries and create something entirely unique.
MOVIESTARZ shared their sentiments on their new single “INVITED” below:
“We made this one right after “Club Punk” and really just wanted to keep that energy going. The song is our response to the pressure in LA to always be networking — the whole ‘yo, let’s connect!’ vibe that never actually leads anywhere. It messes with you mentally. You start wondering: Will I ever get invited to the cool kids’ table? How do you get people to actually care? It’s a weird balance, and this song is how we processed those feelings. In the end, we realized we’re just going to do our thing — and we don’t really care if we’re invited or not.”
With each single release, they will be putting out an exclusive merch item to support the track courtesy of their clothing brand Newport Bleach. For “INVITED” they are releasing a birthday candle – a playful, satirical nod to the song’s message of skipping the party altogether.
These latest singles are the first glimpse into their debut album that blends a range of musical styles, from pop hooks to electronic beats, with a bold, punk-infused twist. They co-produced this track and their upcoming album with The Fund. The new record will feature collaborations with Cali Rodi and Darrian Gerard, showcasing MOVIESTARZ’s diverse approach to production and songwriting.
As MOVIESTARZ continues to grow, they have big ambitions for the project, aiming to create not just music, but a unique art experience. They are just entering the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and boundary-pushing journey.
