Bionic Buzz® had the pleasure of interviewing acclaimed writer Paul Jenkins via Zoom. We discussed the roots of his passion for storytelling, his journey from editor to writer sparked by a pivotal trip to San Diego Comic-Con, the inspiration behind The Sentry, his experience collaborating with the cast and crew of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, the work he’s doing with his company Meta Studios, and much more.
About The Sentry
The Sentry, created by writer Paul Jenkins and artist Jae Lee, is one of Marvel Comics’ most complex and psychologically rich characters. Introduced in The Sentry #1 (2000), the character is Robert Reynolds aka BOB, an ordinary man who suddenly remembers that he is the Sentry, a long-forgotten superhero with the power of “a million exploding suns.” As the embodiment of both immense good and unfathomable evil through his dark counterpart, the Void, the Sentry explores themes of mental illness, memory, and identity. Paul Jenkins crafted the character as a metafictional commentary on comic book history and superhero archetypes, blending Silver Age nostalgia with modern psychological depth. The Sentry has since appeared across major Marvel storylines, cementing his place as a tragic, godlike figure in the Marvel Universe.
