Moda Operandi, the world’s leading platform for fashion discovery, is thrilled to announce the launch of “The Amsterdam Bazaar,” an exclusive multi-category curated Trunkshow featuring products inspired by the 2022 motion picture, Amsterdam, directed and written by acclaimed filmmaker David O. Russell. The film’s costume designer—and celebrated Hollywood name—J.R. Hawbaker designed and curated this unique and eclectic capsule, bringing to life the spirit and aesthetic of the film.

“Within the Trunkshow, consumers can discover a world of modern-meets-vintage-inspired fashion, of vibrant expression and bizarre beauty. The Amsterdam Bazaar feels as if the film’s character, Valerie, stepped through the silver screen to art direct her very own curation. Inevitably, Valerie would be influenced by her circle of dear friends, but also her favorite Dada artists of the past, who have lent their iconoclastic spirit and wit to the tone of the collection,” noted Hawbaker.

This first-of-its-kind, film-inspired collection represents the fusion of fashion, cinema, and inspiration, bringing together a community of artisans, each an independent small business owner, for a limited time only. “I’m thrilled to bring this collection to life with an exceptional band of artisan brands.” said Hawbaker. “The Amsterdam Bazaar is an homage to the beauty and Dada art of the era and the spirit of the film.”

Pieces in the capsule inspired by the film include doctor’s bags from The Cambridge Satchel Company, earrings and necklaces from Laura Cantu Jewelry, a limited-edition t-shirt from cult-favorite Jungmaven, oxford shoes from The Office of Angela Scott, Dada-inspired fine jewelry, and showpieces from Augustus Poppleton Jewels. Thanks to her collaboration with VIVA LA DADA, J.R. Hawbaker’s impeccable choices for the film’s costume design will be available for preorder—specifically the Film Noir Trench worn by the character Valerie and the Femme Fatale Fascinator worn by the character Liz. Also available are the faux fur capelets worn by Liz in the film, which Madeline Weeks of California-based The First By Madeline recreated specially for this Trunkshow, as well as a collection of hats from Hollywood’s longtime hatmaker-to-the-stars, Baron Hats, and early access to Luka Bale and Lori Guidroz’s jewelry line, Lulos. Made in collaboration with fine artist Darren Goins, the latter consists of lavaliere jewels inspired by both the Dada Art Movement and the film’s character, Burt Berendsen.

This collection was born from David O. Russell’s unflinching support for the artistry of filmmakers and for 20th Century Studios’ and New Regency’s advocacy of costume designers as a vital component to filmmaking, and the value that comes from their collaborations with fashion luminaries. “Their support allowed me to bring something truly special and unique to the customer…providing the magic of the film-making process to the greater public,” said Hawbaker. “There could be no other home for such an artistically original and experiential collection than Moda Operandi. Moda is an innovative leader within the e-commerce space, with an emphasis on editorial storytelling, and they have the unique ability to showcase up-and-coming designers alongside the fashion establishment. The brands that make up the collection are a community of small artisan, founder-owned labels who bring their creative essence to an array of products inspired by the film Amsterdam.”

The Trunkshow also includes an exclusive experience available for purchase, a one-of-a-kind garment and Hollywood-style fitting with J.R. Hawbaker. Following a Zoom consultation, the purchaser will spend the day with J.R. in Los Angeles, discussing the design and taking part in the initial fitting, with their final, made-to-measure garment delivered to their door alongside a bespoke sketch. As part of the package, they will also receive two tickets to attend the 25th Costume Designers Guild Awards, and have the opportunity to take four friends on a private guided tour of the Western Costume Company (which is not open to the public) and of the the upcoming 2023 Art of Film Costume Design exhibit at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles, opening in March 2023. 20% of the proceeds from this sale will benefit HIGHER GROUND©, an organization that provides recreational therapy for disabled veterans.

Moda Operandi Co-Founder Lauren Santo Domingo notes, “Moda has become an insider resource for costume designers, who often work with our dedicated private shopping team to source unique pieces for their projects. We are excited to support J.R. and her surrealist vision for the film with the launch of The Amsterdam Bazaar.”

Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker David O. Russell comes an original crime epic about three close friends who find themselves at the center of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history. Based on facts that meet fiction, the film stars Academy Award® winner Christian Bale, two-time Oscar® nominee Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Alessandro Nivola, Andrea Riseborough, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Timothy Olyphant, Zoe Saldana, Oscar winner Rami Malek, and two-time Academy Award winner Robert DeNiro.

The Amsterdam Bazaar Trunkshow launches exclusively on ModaOperandi.com on December 9, 2022, following the early December Blu-ray, DVD, 4K and digital release of Amsterdam in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, and most Latin American and Asian-Pacific markets.
