Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi’s (The Circle, Taxi) stunning new humanist drama, 3 FACES was the winner of the award for Best Screenplay at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and featured at the Toronto and New York film festivals.

It will open in Los Angeles on Friday, March 29 at the Laemmle Royal, Town Center 5 & Glendale.

Jafar Panahi both directs and features in this poignant yet playful exploration of oppression—his fourth movie since being banned from filmmaking in Iran. The film stars Panahi and well-known Iranian actress Behnaz Jafari (both playing themselves) as they embark on an eventful road trip to the rural northwest of Iran to help a girl whose family has forbidden her from attending a drama conservatory in Tehran.

“Critic’s Pick! Elegant… immersive, pleasurably intelligent. Working with modest means and astonishing determination, [Panahi] makes movies that are at once acts of aesthetic will and of political resistance, as well as assertions of the existential sovereignty that here is etched in every last face.” – Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

“An urgent mystery. The limitations imposed on Panahi have turned him into a different filmmaker, a sophisticated minimalist whose work straddles the line between fiction and documentary. Panahi’s sympathies are clear, but his humanity is boundless.” – Scott Tobias, NPR
