EPCOT, Disney’s experimental theme park, has always been known for its innovative attractions that combine entertainment with education. “Journey of Water,” inspired by the beloved Disney movie Moana, is no exception. As a Moana fan, I couldn’t wait to experience this enchanting water-themed adventure, and I left with a smile on my face and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. As a cast member I was able to get a preview of it with my family.

Atmosphere:

The first thing that struck me about “Journey of Water” was its immersive atmosphere. From the moment you step into the attraction, you are transported to the lush, tropical world of Moana. The vibrant plant life, cascading waterfalls, and soothing sounds of the ocean immediately set the stage for a magical journey.

Storytelling:

The attraction does an excellent job of weaving the story of Moana into its water-focused narrative. As you walk through the lush garden, you encounter interactive elements that allow you to manipulate water, just as Moana does in the film. These activities are not only fun but also serve to educate visitors about the importance of water conservation and the water cycle.

Interactive Elements:

The interactive elements are the heart of “Journey of Water.” From tapping on stones to make water ripple to redirecting streams, there are plenty of opportunities for guests to engage with the environment. It’s a delightful experience for visitors of all ages, and it’s clear that a lot of thought went into making these activities accessible and enjoyable.

Educational Value:

While the primary goal of “Journey of Water” is entertainment, it also aims to educate guests about the importance of water conservation and environmental stewardship. However, the educational aspects are somewhat subtle, and younger visitors might miss the message. It would be nice to see more explicit educational signage or interactive elements that emphasize the environmental themes.

Accessibility:

Disney has done an excellent job of making “Journey of Water” accessible to all visitors, including those with mobility challenges. The paths are wide, and there are ramps and gentle slopes to ensure that everyone can enjoy the experience. Additionally, the interactive elements are designed to be easy to use, even for those with limited mobility. Many times there are two paths to chose from, dry or wet path.
