Bionic Buzz covered SPIN Magazine SXSW Dayparty at Stubb’s in Austin, TX. It was as an incredible event, celebrating the influential legacy of Sunny Day Real Estate and The Get Up Kids within the emo scene.

Sunny Day Real Estate’s album “Diary” holds a significant place in music history, having been released on Sub Pop records in 1994 and shaping the emo genre for years to come which celebrated its 30the anniversary. The fact that the crowd enthusiastically sang along to every song is a testament to the album’s enduring impact.

Similarly, The Get Up Kids’ album “Something to Write Home About” is another cornerstone of emo music, and their performance must have been a nostalgic journey for many attendees which celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The atmosphere of the event, with its daytime setting but nighttime energy, coupled with amenities like bloody mary and mimosa bars, contributed to a memorable experience for all. Additionally, the VIP area’s swag bags with items like temporary tattoos from INK BOX – Tattoos for Now, Dickies socks, BONBUZ (mood-enhancing energizing sparkling tonic) and SPIN magazine ear plugs added to the sense of exclusivity and appreciation for attendees.

Overall, it was a fantastic celebration of two bands that have left an indelible mark on the music world, and a reminder of the enduring power of their classic albums. It was my first time seeing both legendary bands and they lived up to their hype.
