Bionic Buzz® got to cover the grand opening of Olivia’s Oasis at Give Kids The World Village, an 89-acre, whimsical nonprofit resort in Kissimmee that provides critically ill children and their families with magical week-long wish vacations at no cost.
Designed to provide caregivers with a respite from the stress of caring for a critically ill child, the spa is named in the memory of GKTW wish child Olivia Wampler, who lost her battle with medulloblastoma last year.
Olivia’s Oasis will immerse guests in a tranquil ambience featuring seven unique quiet spaces for relaxation and reflection. Spa amenities will include:
- SolaJet® Dry-Hydrotherapy tables and chairs, providing spa-quality massages at the touch of a button.
- Therapy loungers and aromatherapy utilizing soothing essential oils.
- Chromotherapy: ambient colored lighting to promote a sense of calm.
- Hydration station.
During her long battle with medulloblastoma, Olivia Wampler touched everyone around her with her caring spirit and joy for life. Nonverbal and developmentally disabled following 13 brain surgeries, Olivia spread love and sunshine wherever she went – with a penchant for delivering exuberant bearhugs to strangers who seemed in need of comfort. “She embraced people no one would ever think to approach with love and respect, regardless of their appearance. That’s when I realized it was her mission to teach us how to love unconditionally,” says dad, Joe. Olivia and her parents stayed at Give Kids The World Village during Olivia’s wish visit, and returned several times as part of the Village’s Welcome Back Family program for alumni. Sadly, on December 14, 2021, Olivia suffered a catastrophic seizure and could not be revived. She passed away at the age of 17.
