Charity Bomb and Unite The United Foundation are thrilled to announce Strange 80s, an upcoming benefit concert and bowling tournament set to kick off When We Were Young Weekend as the place to be on Friday, October 20th at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. Coming off last year’s sold out event, this year’s Strange 80s promises to be even bigger. Attendees can expect a rotating cast of musicians performing the anthems of the 80s, in addition to headline sets from SUM 41, Bowling For Soup, Plain White Ts, and Your Broken Hero.
Other appearances will include: Cassadee Pope, Lilith Czar, Monique Powell (Save Ferris), Chris DeMakes & Roger Lima (Less Than Jake), and Emmyn Calleiro (Games We Play). In between performances they can also look forward to playing Emo Millionaire, hosted by Gunzof The Gunz Show, for a chance to win prizes like signed drum heads, Emo’s Not Dead gift certificates, and more.
Many artists from When We Were Young Festival are expected to be in attendance, either performing, bowling with friends, or mingling and catching up with friends. All proceeds will be split between Charity Bomb and MusiCares, providing children with EQ education as well as supporting musicians in need.

About Charity Bomb
Charity Bomb is a non-profit organization with a mission to create mentally strong communities. The organization achieves this in two ways – producing fundraising concert events to support a variety of mental health organizations that offer the most effective and impactful services to combat depression, anxiety, suicide, and addiction (Give An Hour, The Beat of Life, 320 Changes Direction), and creating EQ (emotional intelligence) educational resources for parents and children to help them grow confidence, self-awareness, and emotional resilience, while avoiding the pitfalls of depression, addiction, bullying and suicide.
Charity Bomb was founded in January of 2018 by twin brothers and musicians in Madina Lake, Matthew & Nathan Leone.
While on break from touring, Matthew was attacked when he intervened in a domestic dispute on the streets of Chicago. The outpouring of love from the local community and global music industry was overwhelming. Notably, The Smashing Pumpkins performed a benefit show at Metro, and Warped Tour founder, Kevin Lyman (who now sits on the Board of Advisors) organized a festival-wide fundraising campaign for Matthew while he was in a coma. Inspired by such profound kindness and generosity around the world, the twins decidedly devoted their lives to giving back.
In the wake of a year-long rehabilitation, they spent several years learning about mental health and the charity space.
The Leone brothers’ lifelong curiosity about traditional IQ-based curriculum being devoid of EQ education evolved from a passion project, into a career, after discovering the manifestation of childhood trauma and dysfunction into adulthood.
In January of 2018, the twins launched 501c3 Charity Bomb.
Since then, Charity Bomb has produced seven Strange benefit concerts raising over $230,000 for a variety of mental health organizations.
While these organizations do great work to serve the symptoms of mental illness, Charity Bomb was interested in the potential for preventative measures that could thwart their onset before they take hold. During their research, the Leone’s discovered an unambiguous correlation between mental illness and a lack of EQ, or emotional intelligence. In 2020, Charity Bomb launched Operation GENzEQ to provide EQ education for children as a preventative mental health strategy.
