Hours before Iran’s missile attack on Israel last Saturday, John Ondrasik performed “OK,” a song that he wrote to address the Hamas attacks of Oct 7th and the cultural aftermath at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv for thousands of Israel’s, including hostage families.  The Grammy® nominated singer/songwriter also performed his 9-11 anthem song, “Superman.”  Check out the performance and listen to his comments HERE.

Says Ondrasik, “It was an honor of a lifetime to perform at Hostage Square during this significant moment of history. Looking out at the hostage family members singing ‘OK’ was heartbreaking, and brought back memories of singing ‘Superman’ at “The Concert for New York City” in 2001.  I am also grateful for the opportunity to perform for injured soldiers at Sheba Medical Center, and to be able to spend some time with the iconic freedom fighter, Natan Sharansky. To be in Israel when Iran launched its attack was, in a sense, fitting, as I personally experienced the evil actors who have been targeting Israel and the Jewish people for decades, if not centuries. I was also moved by the fortitude, resilience, and compassion of the Israeli people. I look forward to continuing to support those who value freedom, Democracy, human rights, and civilization against those who would tear it down.”

Adds Rebecca Assia Shafrir, Head of fundraising for the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, “We are so grateful that Five for Fighting’s John Ondrasik joined us to perform on stage in solidarity with the families of the hostages during these very difficult times. His first visit to Israel brought a message of friendship and support which means so much to us all. We owe so much to our allies in America and John is a true ally!”

About “OK”

Five For Fighting recently released “OK” in response to the October 7th Hamas attacks in Israel, while addressing the cultural aftermath both in America and around the world. Michael Ramirez, two-time Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist, drew the single cover image. Check out the video on YouTube HERE or X (formerly Twitter) HERE.  The State of Israel HERE and the Israeli Foreign Minister HERE both shared the video.

Ondrasik penned the track for “OK” in the same vein as his previous songs, Blood On My Hands, about the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan; and “Can One Man Save The World?“, which was recorded in Kyiv in support of Ukraine, as he states, “’OK’ is not a political message, but a moral one. A call to action. The final image of the ‘OK’ music video is Martin Luther King and his historic call to every man and woman on this earth: ‘He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.’  Thankfully, as happens in the darkest of times, there are heroes in our midst. Some are in this video, several have names that we know, others will never be known.”
