Bionic Buzz® covered the San Diego Comic-Con 2024. There we interviewed Richard Fairgray a GLAAD-winning comic creator at his booth in Artist Alley. We learned about his comic books Shed, Four-Color Heroes, Horror Shorts and more!

Shed:

After the death of her father, Amber seeks refuge in his small town, reopening his junk shop and looking for the happy ending she’s seen in so many movies – the one where a young woman relocates and dates two men. The one where you know exactly what you’ll do for the rest of your life by the time you hit 30. The one that shouldn’t be examined too closely by anyone who’s slumped into it.

But small towns in stories are never what they seem. It’s more than petty old women and repression keeping this town from moving forward. It’s the choices made long ago that echo out from the deep ocean. It’s the sea monster who should never have come ashore.

Four-Color Heroes:

Four-Color Heroes is an LGBTQIA+ coming-of-age graphic novel which features a foreword by GLAAD Award-winning writer David M. Booher (Killer Queens, Canto), as well as an essay by clinical psychologist and media consultant Dr. Drea Letamendi on protecting the mental health of LGBTQIA+ youth and the importance of creating nurturing and affirming communities where they may thrive. Written and illustrated by Aotearoa/New Zealand-born creator Richard Fairgray (Black Sand Beach), the story is set in a New Zealand high school during the passing of the Civil Union Act 2004. As tensions rose nationwide over the basic equal rights of same-sex couples, two boys were fighting a battle on a smaller scale, against enemies from within and without, as they found love and self-discovery through the pages of a comic book.

Horror Shorts:

The final collection of horror shorts, featuring 4 brand new stories of psychological horror, body horror and (of course) a poop story!
