Bionic Buzz® got to cover the red carpet of the Tribute to Veterans & Bob Hope event at The Hollywood Museum. President and Founder of The Hollywood Museum, Donelle Dadigan and the daughter of Bob and Dolores Hope, Linda Hope, pay tribute and featured a book signing of “Dear Bob…. Bob Hope’s Wartime Correspondence with the G.I.’s of World War II.” 2020 was the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII. Although, the pandemic kept many from commemorating the anniversary of “The Greatest Generation,” the Hollywood Museum still wanted to take this opportunity the celebrate our service men and women as well as the unique relationship between our troops and Bob Hope, by way of the USO. It is so important, especially at this time, to remember our veterans and current members of the armed services. Never before has it been as important to remember and pay homage to our veterans and today’s members of the armed services.

The Hollywood Museum will proudly be presenting items from the illustrious career of the legendary Bob Hope, including A costume from his days on vaudeville, the golf putter he used in his Toluca Lake office, a jacket Bob wore while on tour with the USO and his 1959 Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences., as well as sample letters from the WWII service men and women, as well as nurses, wives, and parents who freely shared their innermost thoughts, swapped jokes, and commiserated with Bob Hope, the “G. I.s’ best friend” about war, sacrifice, lonely days, and worrisome, silent nights. This Entertainer of the Century performed for millions of soldiers in person, in films, and over the radio. He visited them in the hospitals and became not just a pal, but their link to home. The letters are as relevant today as they were when Hope began entertaining our troops 80 years ago as well as 75 years ago as WWII came to an end. In addition to fans of the golden age of television; the children and grandchildren of the greatest generation; historians and teachers of history, especially WWII history; active military, veterans, and their families.

n the tradition of The Hollywood Museum’s numerous other exhibits, The Lobby Tribute to Bob Hope and our US Veterans is a time capsule that reveals exactly how important Hope’s remarkable service was to the fighting men and women of World War II. “Dear Bob…. Bob Hope’s Wartime Correspondence with the G.I.’s of World War II” by Linda Hope and Bob’s long time writer, Martha Bolton, is collection of personal letters, postcards, packages, and more sent back and forth among Hope and the troops and their loved ones back home.
