Victoria Boyington is a lead singer of the band Callbox and founder and director of the non profit California Women’s Music. She took some time away from her busy schedule to let us interview her about the non-profit and their upcoming music festival.
1. (Bionic Buzz) We are all about about people’s passions. Where did your passion for music come from? Was it a certain album or heard? A live performance you saw that made you want to start a band? Or was it just natural for you as a kid?
(Victoria)
My passion for music came from my children. I know that is not the usual answer but I began playing guitar after having my first children so that i could teach them. I sang in choir and participated in Drama all through school , but I did not perform in a band until 2007. In 2007, the performance that inspired me was being picked to dance on stage with Little Richard. The stage was at The University of Texas, Austin in front of thousands of people. I knew I wanted to do that again.
2. You are the founder and director of the non profit California Women’s Music. Tell us about the non profit and the motivation for forming it.
Victoria- California Women’s Music was founded in 2014 because of the lack of visibility at music festivals or in the music industry at many levels. Our mission is to advance women and binary identified people in music, business, education and the fine arts. The motivation is knowing that we can help mold the future landscape of the future industry.

4. Besides running the California Women’s Music, you also have your own band called Callbox. The band will be releasing its first EP this summer. Tell us about it.
My band CallBox is an award winning three piece pop/rock band. Callbox is Jimbo, warrguitarist, Dylan Soto, Drums and Victoria Boyington, vocals. The songs are an accumulation of songs that we play live but have never recorded. “Born in El Paso” was our first acoustic single released in 2018. We will be in the studio end of March to record a 5 song Self Titled EP.
5. Beside the CA Woman’s Music Festival, what else does the future hold for you and the California Women’s Music?
The future for my band is to continue to create music and grow in the songwriting process. We will be releasing videos with our music releases. I honestly do not need fame and fortune, I just want to create good music.
The future is definately fluid, anything is possible. My goal is to have a positive impact on women in the music industry through raising consciousness and awareness of the need for unification through a shared digital story. The festival is the vehicle.
