Bionic Buzz® got to interview the cast & crew of the music documentary Bleeding Audio which is about the band The Matches. Interviews with band members Shawn Harris (Vocalist and Rhythm Guitarist) and Justin San Souci (Bassist). Along with Director of the documentary Chelsea Christer and special guest DJ Rossstar (Music Journalist & Interviewer). We talked about how long it took Chelsea to put this amazing documentary together, how was it getting others on board to be in this doc, memories of The Matches on Live with DJ Rossstar, Vans Warped Tour and more.

Review by DJ Rossstar:

I was fortunate enough to discover The Matches in 2004. I hosted my own live webTV show from 2002-2017 and had the band on as guests multiple times. Because of this, I can confirm that everything portrayed in the documentary is true. The members of The Matches were always incredibly kind to me during our interviews and treated me like family when attending their shows. There wasn’t a bad bone in their bodies.

Much like Mark Hoppus, Nick Hexum, and others in this documentary, I believed The Matches were well on out their way to superstardom. Their songs were insanely catchy, and their live show was one of the band I had ever seen. Over the years, I probably caught their set 15+ times and was never bored for a moment.

The music industry is a beast, and sadly, only 1/1,000,000 artists will make it big. ‘Bleeding Audio’ tells the tale of what happens when you are not that 1, but honors their career in a very uplifting way. This is not a negative documentary by any means. It’s real and honest and captures everything about the band that I love. Even if you aren’t familiar with their music, this documentary will still tug on your heart strings. Especially if have ever dreamed of achieving something out of the norm and went for it full force. 10/10.

About Bleeding Audio:

Told through the eyes of quirky, charming, and humble bandmates: Shawn, Jon, Matt, and Justin, Bleeding Audio is an intimate portrait detailing The Matches’ promising career, defeating break up, and inspiring reunion, as they reflect on what success truly means for musicians in today’s digital industry.

The Matches’ story overlaps with the drastic changes the music industry has undergone in the past several years. From declining record sales, to excessive touring, to illegal downloading and streaming. This documentary uses The Matches history and recent reunion to dig deeper into the root of the challenges the average musician faces in the digital age of the industry, and how artists can navigate their careers today.

Bleeding Audio features interviews from The Matches, their family and music industry friends; including Nick Hexum of 311, Mark Hoppus of Blink 182, Cassadee Pope from The Voice, Biffy Clyro, Plain White T’s, Motion City Soundtrack, Zebrahead, and more!
