Bionic Buzz® got to interview author Arvind Ethan David about the graphic novel Gray. It is a supernatural revenge thriller with a feminist edge based on a reimagined Oscar Wilde classic, The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Written by Audible Best-selling and Stoker-nominated author Arvind Ethan David (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, The Neil Gaiman at the End of the Universe, Jagged Little Pill), drawn by Eugenia Koumaki (Hubris, The Great CoffeeConspiracy, Kiss Me Kate), inked by Diana Greenhalgh (IDW, Marvel Studios, Warner Bros./DC Entertainment), colored by Joana Lafuente (Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Power Rangers), and published through Clover Press (Dracula of Transylvania, Sam Kieth’s 2021 Maxx Calendar, Butcher Knight), GRAY is told through a two-volume graphic novel and concludes as a full-cast audio-drama, with Emmy and Tony winning actors. The story follows an alluring but violent woman, Dorian Gray, who seeks vengeance on a cabal of powerful men who wronged her years ago, leaving her emotionally changed – and forever frozen as an ageless beauty with quasi-magical abilities; and of the straight-laced Detective, Hank Wutan, with a past of his own, who is tasked with stopping her.

The audio drama tells Dorian’s story as a true crime investigative podcast hosted by the mysterious Speranza (currently being cast) – a new character, determined for reasons of her own to figure out the truth of what happened to the enigmatic Dorian Gray and stars Tony nominee Lauren Patten (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill, Blue Bloods) as Dorian Gray, Neil Brown, Jr. (SEAL Team, Straight Outta Compton) as Detective Hank Wutan, Emmy Winner Richard Schiff (The Good Doctor, The West Wing, Se7en) as Detective Augustus Bracknell, Tony Nominee Samuel Barnett (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Penny Dreadful, The History Boys) as the villain, Baron Claus Arnheim, Kiran Deol (Sunnyside, Greatest Ever) as Gwendolyn, and to be directed by Milena Govich (FBI, Chicago Fire), who will also play the role of Mrs. Cheveley.

The first half of the two-part graphic novel is set to release on June 30 (pre-orders available now), with the second half available in October 2021. We talked to Arvind Ethan David about the process of getting this graphic novel made, how he got a lot of No’s on his journey, the cast of the audible drama, our love for the sound track of Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill, when it will be returning to Broadway & more!
