84 Days: Pennywise’s Randy Bradbury & Producer Cameron Webb Start New Supergroup

Randy Bradbury – bassist for legendary punk group Pennywise – and Grammy-winning producer Cameron Webb are excited to announce their brand new group: 84 Days. A rock collaboration of epic proportions, the band tapped in No Doubt’s Adrian Young to drum on their debut self-titled album in addition to supplemental guitar work from The Vandals’ Warren Fitzgerald.

84 Days will be released on November 7th via Double Helix Records, in worldwide distribution partnership with SBAM Records (EU) and Pee Records (AUS/NZ/JPN).

On the new album, Bradbury shares: “The whole process was sheer enjoyment. Making music is what I love so recording this album was a reward in itself. Saying I’m pleased with how it turned out seems like an understatement.”

About 84 Days:

Whether you believe in fate or not, sometimes it feels like things happen for a reason, like they’re just meant to be. That’s how Randy Bradbury – who’s best known as the bassist for punk legends Pennywise – felt when he one day found himself compelled to write some songs. Not for the band, just for himself. So that’s exactly what he started doing, and he soon discovered he was onto something. The inspiration was flowing, and for about a year he sat in his studio writing the songs that came to him, almost as if he were a conduit for, well, something else, something mysterious.

“So I tried to just create the situation where I became a receiver of…whatever it was,” he remembers. “I sat in my studio, and the first thing that popped in my head, I would put it down. And I wrote all these songs.”

Thankfully, that mysterious source that had made him a vessel for the songs didn’t stop there. Everything just started falling into place. First, he sent the songs to longtime Pennywise collaborator and producer Cameron Webb for nothing more than an outside, objective opinion. An acclaimed, Grammy-winning producer who’s also worked with the likes of Motörhead, Social Distortion, Alkaline Trio, Danzig, Godsmack, Ben Folds, Weezer, Sum 41, and Lagwagon, to name a few, Bradbury knew that Webb would tell him the truth about these songs. Bradbury was preparing for the worst, but the moment Webb heard these songs, he knew Bradbury should turn them into a record.

“I’d always heard a lot of Randy’s songs,” says Webb, “because they’d all submit songs for Pennywise and put them in this pot and stir them around. When he sent me those demos, I started listening to them from top to bottom, and I loved all of these rock songs, which was a different side of Randy’s songwriting. So I called Randy right away and told him he should make a full-length record and I would help him make it.”

The next order of business was to find a label that loved Bradbury’s songs as much as they did. Bradbury quickly linked up with Double Helix Records, who were incredibly enthusiastic about putting out an 84 Days album. Then, the pair set out to find the right person to play drums. They reached out to their friend Adrian Young, best known for being No Doubt’s drummer. He was more than happy to join Bradbury and Webb in the studio to sit behind the kit for the making of the album. With Young on board, Webb started going to Bradbury’s studio a couple days a week for a while and learned the songs on bass so he could play on the record, too. Suddenly the project was a living, breathing band. From there, the trio got to work at Webb’s Maple Sound Studios in Santa Ana, California.

“I loved playing drums on Randy’s new record!” enthuses Young. “The songs are well written, and it was a treat to be part of the process with Randy and Cameron. The record came out really good.”

Indeed, there’s a real purity to these songs, a tangible exuberance and dedication to the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll. It feels incredibly natural, because it is. Full of a youthful zest and abandon, it’s a melodic yet energetic punk-inspired rock ‘n’ roller that typifies the attitude of 84 Days – which is to not go gentle into that good night, but rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And so, 84 Days is a record that makes you feel alive and inspired, that kickstarts you into being human again, reminds you of the power and joy that can be found in creating something with your friends for the thrill and the fun of it, and is a necessary escape from—and antidote to—a world that’s going up in flames. And while Bradbury and Webb aren’t exactly sure what the future holds for the band, their debut record is full of so much heart and soul you get the sense that this s just the beginning of something truly big.
