Question (Submitted by Steve Sievers, Bionic Buzz):
Ariel, Sophia the 1st has meant so much to so many fans over the years. Do you have a fan of interaction or moment that really stood out to you and showed you the impact the character has had?

๐ค Ariel Winter:
Oh, so many. I don’t even know if I could just point out one. I mean, I hear from adults that tell me that they can’t wait to see the new show, that they watched it when they were, um, you know, my age when the show started, and they’re now my age now, and they tell me that they cannot wait to watch the show, that it meant so much to them, that it either got them through a tough time in middle school or that, you know, they learned so much from Sophia.
I have so many nieces that watch the show that absolutely loved it. Um, I was talking to, a couple of my nieces that are now teenagers and they like called me randomly. Which they do often, and I love it. But they called me a couple months ago. They were with their friends, and their friends were like, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, like don’t tell her, don’t tell her. And my niece was like, they’ve created a rap to the Sofia I theme song, and, they want to wrap it for you. And they were in the background, they were like, oh, my gosh, no, no, no, we can’t, We can’t. not do it justice. And my niece was like, No, no, no, no, no. Rap it for her. And they, like, rapped me the Sofia the first theme song, and they were like, we just love it so much. Like, we used to watch it every day. Like, as soon as we came home from school, we loved it. We watched it every day. And they, like, rapped me the Sofia the first theme song, and I was like, this is quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever experienced.
I just had so many experiences and interactions with people who loved the show so much and told me how much it meant to them, that it really just makes it all that much better. Like, I know how much it meant to me, but being able to see the impact it has had on people just makes it a million times better. I mean, that’s what we make the show for. Obviously, we love the show, but you make art for it to have an impact on people, and when it makes such an impact, it’s obviously what you do it for.

Once got, like, a three page letter. It was online, so it was an, yeah, online letter from, um, a viewer who said that there was an episode we did about, um, stepparents, and it was, it was literally about, you know, the, the relation, how a stepfather is a father. And, um, it’s called, I think, Dads and Daughters, Daniel, went camping with your dads. And your stepdad in your case? Yeah. And I got this letter from this young woman who said that watching that with her stepfather helped them repair their relationship. I guess it had a really challenging relationship. It was so sweet, and it was, I was like, wow, I mean, it was wow, because a lot of times a lot, what you’ll hear is that this was the, you know, this is the show they a kid watched with their parents. Or this was their comfort show that always made them feel good. But in this case, it really helped this person, this woman work through something with her stepfather, was so sweet and so nice, and I was like, whoa, okay, wow, that was more than I expected. But so nice to hear.
