Bionic Buzz was invited to cover the launch of Southwest Airlines’ new nonstop service from Orlando to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, celebrating the inaugural flight with a vibrant gate-side and onboard activation at Orlando International Airport (MCO). During the event, we interviewed Ted Gordon, Vice President of Airport Affairs for Southwest Airlines, and Ayana His, Social Media Specialist for the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism.

They shared insight into the significance of the new nonstop route from Orlando to St. Thomas (STT), how it expands Caribbean access for Central Florida travelers, and what this new service means for tourism and connectivity to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The celebration featured dancers and cultural elements inspired by the U.S. Virgin Islands, creating a high-energy send-off as passengers boarded the first flight on the route. The new nonstop service adds another leisure destination reachable nonstop from Orlando, strengthening travel ties between Florida and the Caribbean.
