Former guitarist of Toadies, Darrel William Herbert has released a debut single and video, “Pull Yourself Together,” the title track from his forthcoming EP via Pasadena Records.

“The song came to me in the middle of the night, inspired by a horrible bout of self-reflection which it, thankfully, helped me get over,” says Darrel about the song. “I try not to focus on the ‘self’ or write songs about myself too much, there seems to be an awful lot of that going around these days and I don’t want to be too trendy – but in this case seemed appropriate. The recording came together quickly as well. I played all the instruments and sang all the vocals, which I parody in the video.”

The electronic drums and effects that pulse and swirl throughout the five-song EP are miles away from the rootsy vibe that anchored Darrel’s 2020 debut solo album, An Unwelcome Moment of Clarity. They’re even further from the crunchy power chords that marked his stint with Toadies on Rubberneck. “I love those records and playing with those guys,” but both of those albums were collaborations., says Darrel. “This record reflects me as a recording artist more than anything I’ve done before. This is who I am.”

Pull Yourself Together EP will be released July 30, 2021 via Pasadena Records.
