Bionic Buzz® got to cover an outdoor comedy show in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles put on by the The Shindig Show. Since the beginning of the Pandemic in March, one of the hardest-hit industries across the United States is the live comedy business. Comedy venues across the country have closed, leaving no outlet for much-needed humor and fun. In the Los Angeles comedy scene, the comedy clubs have not been able to open their doors since the coronavirus-related shutdown, forcing comedy producers like Jimmy Shin to get creative. Jimmy has produced shows at the world-famous Comedy Store and Hollywood Improv for over six years. Seeing the need for live entertainment more than ever, Jimmy has taken his famed Shindig Show to a small outdoor amphitheater-like venue in Silver Lake. “The secret spot holds 250 people, but because of strict safety and social distancing measures we follow, we limit the capacity to 90 seats,” Jimmy explained.

The Shindig Show is one of the longest-running shows at the Comedy Store, and Jimmy is bringing all the headliners and up and comers you are used to seeing at the big Clubs to this impressive outdoor venue. “With all the restrictions in place, I wanted to create a safe space where comics could hang out and perform. To comedians, this is a lifeline. I know comedians who have committed suicide because of the lack of social contact and the inability to do what we love most,” says Jimmy. Audiences, too, benefit from better mental health by getting out and forgetting about their worries for a couple of hours.
